Scan and Strike Touch
A great 4v4 game that can be used at any level to develop players ability to scan for numbers, mismatches and create overloads in attack by making sure the scrum half is an attacking threat.
This is 4 v 4 SCAN AND STRIKE TOUCH
I am a huge fan of small sided games as they help to develop skills in context and create skilled problem solvers.
Scan and Strike Objective - scan numbers, 9 must initiate best way to attack and look for 2v1 or 3v2 opportunities. SCORE TRIES - Remember a 2 v1 is easier to convert than a 3v2.
HOW TO PLAY
On a Touch - pass ball to defender
Defender take a knee and pop ball back to attacker
Attacker must scan for numbers and look to create 2v1 opportunities and mismatches.
Attacker can only receive the ball from the defender when already attacking a side either left or right and make this obvious. The attacker musn’t receive the ball directly in front of the defender. This will show what decision the attacker thinks is best and encourage them to be an attacking threat and take away an additional defender.
Off the ball attackers can sweep around the ball too.
When a team scores they can turn and attack back the opposition direction.
MAKE IT YOUR OWN
How can you be smart as a coach with the skills and in making it a game with increasing difficulty to accelerate you game model.
Level 1 - 2 scores in a row
Level 2 - 3 scores in a row
Level 3 - You must use a kick to score in one of the 4 scores.
Level 4 - Attackers cannot come around the ball.
